Valeria Girardello
Valeria graduated with honours from the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice and later specialised at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan. She also holds a degree in architecture from the IUAV University of Venice. She is currently specialising with Daniela Barcellona and Alessandro Vitiello.
For the Teatro La Fenice, Valeria performed in the 2020 New Year's Concert conducted by Myung-Whun Chung; she sang Handel's Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, Vivaldi's Dorilla in Tempe conducted by Diego Fasolis, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Stravinksy's Pulcinella, Cilea's Gina, Haydn's Missa in Tempore belli, Gluck's Le Cinesi, Perocco's Aquagranda, Ilse Weber's songs for the Remembrance Day ceremony, Verdi's Rigoletto, Battistelli's Baruffe Chioggiotte in a world premiere performance and Porpora's Salve Regina. She attended the Rossini Opera Festival Academy in Pesaro in 2017, debuting the roles of Marchesa Melibea and Maddalena in Il Viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Theatre. Since that year she has performed numerous times for the Festival: in 2018 the Petite Messe Solennelle at the Teatro Rossini, in 2019 for the World Premiere of the Soirees Musicales in orchestral version and at the ROF XL Gala with Juan Diego Florez, Anna Goryachova, Angela Meade, Nicola Alaimo and Lawrence Brownlee under the baton of Carlo Rizzi; the Petite Messe Solennelle in Paris for the 150th Rossini anniversary and the Stabat Mater in Milan with the Verdi Orchestra. In 2020 she was again Magdalena in the Viaggio a Reims for an open-air version of the festival.
For the Teatro alla Scala she was Zita in Gianni Schicchi conducted by Adam Fischer and directed by Woody Allen, Rigoletto conducted by Daniel Oren and directed by Gilbert Deflo, Die Aegyptische Helena by Strauss and Angelina in La Cenerentola for children. For the Arena di Verona she played Maddalena in Rigoletto in 2023, a role she also performed at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo in January 2024. In 2022 she was Flora in La traviata at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Arena di Verona. At the Donizetti Opera Festival she was Enrichetta in the first modern performance of Alfredo il Grande. Valeria has also shown a strong interest in performing the Baroque repertoire. She was Armida in Rinaldo at the Internationale Haendel Festspiele in Karlsruhe in January 2025 conducted by Alessandrini.
She has performed Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Legrenzi's La divisione del mondo in Kiel, Handel's Theodora at the Britten-Pears Festival in Aldeburgh, Il ballo delle Ingrate at the Dutch National Opera conducted by Christophe Rousset and directed by Pierre Audi, Bononcini's Arminio at the Purti miro festival conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini, a pastiche of Vivaldi's Orlando at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza and Mozart's Apollo et Hyancintus at the Teatro Litta in Milan. She has also taken part in other productions at the Mario del Monaco Municipal Theatre in Treviso such as L'italiana in Algeri interpreting Zulma, Nina in Donizetti's Giovedì Grasso, the Musico in Donizetti's Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali and Luca Mosca's Il gioco del vento e della luna. She played Maddalena in Rigoletto at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Regio di Torino for the second Regio Opera Festival.
Upcoming engagements see her perform in Salzburg in Handel's Galatea from Aci, Galatea and Polyphemus, in mere Jeanne in Dialogues des Carmelites at La Fenice Theatre and in Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana in the traditional concert in St. Mark's Square, in Cornelia from Giulio Cesare at the Petruzzelli in Bari.
