Alex Esposito

Bass-baritone. Born in Bergamo in 1975, he quickly established himself as one of the most interesting artists of his generation, collaborating with conductors such as Abbado, Pappano, Chung, Nagano, Gatti, Biondi, Chailly, and Mariotti, and directors such as Mussbach, Guth, Vick, Michieletto, Alden, Pelly, and Pizzi. He performs regularly at the most prestigious musical institutions, including La Scala, La Fenice, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Royal Opera House in London, the Teatro Real in Madrid, and the Opéra National in Paris.

Among his most recent engagements are “Mefistofele” and “Simon Boccanegra” at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice; “L’elisir d’amore” at the Wiener Staatsoper; “Don Giovanni”, “Le nozze di Figaro”, “Les contes d’Hoffmann” and “Macbeth” at the Bayerische Staatsoper; “Lucrezia Borgia”, “La damnation de Faust” and “Il barbiere di Siviglia” at Teatro dell’Opera in Roem, as well as “Les contes d’Hoffmann”, “Mosè in Egitto”, and “I vespri siciliani” at the San Carlo in Naples, “Faust” and “Don Quichotte” at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, “Macbeth” in Macerata, “Semiramide” at the Bayerische Staatsoper and at La Fenice, “The Turk in Italy”, “Don Giovanni”, and Rossini’s “Stabat Mater” at La Scala; his debut as Filippo II in “Don Carlo” at La Fenice in Venice, later revived at the Deutsche Oper Berlin; “Die Zauberflöte” and “Il barbiere di Siviglia” at the Opéra de Paris; “Anna Bolena” at the Teatro La Fenice, the Rome Opera, and the Grand Théâtre de Genève; “Faust” in Venice, Paris, Valencia, and Vienna; “Les contes d’Hoffmann” at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Royal Opera House in London, the Berlin Staatsoper, and the Vienna State Opera.

Among his recent and upcoming engagements: “Faust”, “Don Giovanni”, “The Rake’s Progress”, and “Don Quixote” at La Scala; “Le nozze di Figaro” at the Royal Ballet and Opera; “The Rake’s Progress” at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome; “La damnation de Faust” at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples; “Les Contes d’Hoffmann”, “Anna Bolena”, and “Don Giovanni” at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and “Aida” at the Terme di Caracalla.

Alex Esposito was named Best Singer of 2006 and awarded the 2007 “Franco Abbiati” Prize by Italian music critics; in September 2020, he was awarded the title of Kammersänger by the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.
