Born in Rome, he studied photography and painting, discovering a passion for lighting design influenced by his father who worked in the theatre.

At the end of the 1990s he began working at the Rossini Opera Festival, where he specialized in opera. He has collaborated with directors such as Daniele Abbado, Francesco Micheli, Henning Brockhaus, Pippo Delbono, Franco Ripa di Meana, Yannis Kokkos and Barrie Kosky.

Recent and future engagements include La fille du régiment and Die Liebe der Danae at the Bayerische Staatsoper, La traviata at Bregenzer Festspiele, Siegfried and Die Walküre at the Royal Opera House in London, Rigoletto at the Teatro La Fenice, Die Verlobung Im Kloster at the MusikTheater an der Wien, Lohengrin, West Side Story and La traviata at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome.

He has worked for Carmen in London, Rigoletto in Amsterdam, Il Trovatore at the Wiener Staatsoper, La damnation de Faust at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Theater an der Wien, Don Pasquale at the Opéra national in Paris, Rigoletto in Palermo (with directed by the film maker John Turturro), with Barrie Kosky Semele, Candide, La bohème at the Komische Oper and Der Rosenkavalier at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Also, Die Jungfrau von Orleans (directed by Lotte de Beer) at the Theater an der Wien.

He collaborates continuously with Damiano Michieletto, producing Alcina at the Salzburger Festspiele, Orfeo ed Euridice at the Komische Oper Berlin, Giulio Cesare at the Theater de Champs Elysees, Der ferne Klang by Franz Schreker in Frankfurt and many other productions in the most important theaters of Europe, like the world premiere of Animal Farm by Raskatov in Amsterdam and Wien.

He won the Knight of Illumination Award 2015 for Guillaume Tell, and with the creative team the Olivier Awards 2016 for Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci as “best new production”.
