Highlights of the 2019/2020 season for Romanian bass Leonard Bernad include the role of Masetto in Don Giovanni at the National Opera of Bordeaux, Melisso in Alcina both at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy and with the Opéra de Dijon under the baton of Leonardo Garcia Alarcón, and Biterolf in Tannhäuser at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt.

He recently made his debut as Leporello in Don Giovanni at the Theater Bonn, where, as an ensemble, he sang roles such as Ariodate in Händel's Serse, Alvise Badoero in La Gioconda, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Zuniga in Carmen, Jacopo Loredano in I due Foscari, Cesare Angelotti in Tosca, Swallow in Peter Grimes, Leone in Attila and Timur in Turandot.

Leonard was also a member of the ensemble Opera Vlaanderen where he debuted in the roles of Biterolf in Tannhäuser, Idraote/ Astarotte in Rossini's Armida, Pharnaces in Der König Kandaules, Colline in La bohème, Lodovico in Otello, La Voce di Nettuno in Idomeneo and Joe in Aufstiegund Fall der Stadt Mahagonny.

He was also the Marchese in Mirandolina at the Bayerische Staatsoper, as well as Stimme Der Wächter Der Stadt in Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Munich Opera Festival. He sang Il Vecchio Zingaro in Il trovatore and Il Capo della Guardia in Cherubini's Medea, both productions conducted by Zubin Mehta and screened at the 2012 Festival del Mediterrani.

Leonard appeared opposite Edita Gruberova in Bellini's La straniera at the Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, and sang the same part at the Wiener Musikverein at Edita Gruberova's 45th anniversary concert.

Under the musical direction of Plácido Domingo, he sang the role of the Police Commissioner in Amelia at Menotti's Ball and played Il Frate in Don Carlo at the opening of the 2019/2020 season at the La Fenice Theatre with Maestro M. W. Chung.

Recent engagements include La bohème in Antwerp, Don Giovanni at the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona, Faust and Norma in Bucharest.
