Daughter and grandaughter of singers, with whom she trained musically, Eva Mei made her debut at the Wiener Staatsoper at the age of 22 as Konstanze in Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail, a role with which she had just won the Mozart Competition (1990). It is the beginning of a brilliant career that sees her protagonist for over two decades in the major European and world theaters.
Refined performer of Italian Belcanto like Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti and Verdi, she never left the Mozart repertoire by interpreting all his main roles.
In recent years, alongside her workhorses such as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni performed in München, Amsterdam, Zurich, Palermo and Turin, Countess in The Marriage of Figaro at the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Cartagena Festival and in Tokyo NNTT and Alice in Falstaff in Tel Aviv and at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with Zubin Mehta, at the Lucerne Festival with the Bamberger Symphoniker and Jonathan Nott, at La Scala with Daniele Gatti, at San Carlo in Naples with Pinchas Steinberg and at the NNTT with Carlo Rizzi, she performed among others Violetta in La traviata with Zubin Mehta in Tel Aviv and at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Elisa in Il re pastore performed and recorded in Vienna with Harnoncourt and Adalgisa in Norma, performed and recorded in Ravenna with Muti and in Montecarlo with Fasolis alongside Cecilia Bartoli, with whom she will be in Japan with the tour of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo.
In the symphonic repertoire she was a guest of the main orchestras including the National de Paris with Daniele Gatti, the one of the Salzburg Festival for the Petite Messe Solennelle with Antonio Pappano and the Filarmonica della Scala on the Asian tour of the IX Symphony of Beethoven with Myung Wun Chung .
Besides the operatic and symphonic repertoire she has dedicated herself also to the chamber music by performing in recitals and concerts in the most prestigious halls in the world.
Also passionate about teaching, she regularly holds Masterclasses in Italy, Israel and Japan and since the 2016/17 season she is a teacher at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
She has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Vladimir Askenazy, Daniel Barenboim, William Christie, Myung Wun Chung, Colin Davis, Iván Fischer, Daniele Gatti, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Fabio Luisi, Peter Maag, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Jonathan Nott , Antonio Pappano, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Franz Welser-Möst.
Among her recent and future engagements, interesting debuts such as Leonora in the Donizetti Rosmonda d’Inghilterra at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo and at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and in the new productions of Teatro alla Scala such as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus and Aithra in Die Aegyptische Helena, again Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito at Verdi in Trieste and at Palau de les Artes in Valencia and Alice at Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center in NYC, at the Lucerne Festival and at the Olympic Theater in Vicenza with the tour of the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Ivan Fisher.
