An authentic dramatic mezzo-soprano "with a privileged timbre color" that "from low notes rich in harmonics rises to radiant high notes without fractures" (Elvio Giudici), "Broad and dark voice", "with an overwhelming temperament" (Andrea Merli), Teresa Romano began her career at young age, debuting first as soprano in roles such as Fiordiligi in “Così Fan tutte”, Vitellia in “La Clemenza di Tito”, Margherita in“Mefistofele”, Leonora in “Il Trovatore” and “La Forza del Destino”, Amelia in“Un Ballo in Maschera” and Maddalena di Coigny in “Andrea Chénier”. She latertackled the role of Turandot in Puccini's masterpiece at the Teatro Filarmonicoin Verona, at the Regio in Turin, at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and at La Fenice in Venice. She finally made the definitive transition to the mezzo-soprano repertoire, making her debut in 2019 as Amneris in "Aida" at the Festspiel Haus in Erl and then continuing, in 2022,with her debut as Principessa di Bouillon in "Adriana Lecouvreur" at the Municipal Theater of Piacenza and at the Teatro Comunale of Modena and, subsequently, at the Teatro Verdi in Salerno, under the direction of Daniel Oren. In the same year she also made her debut as Eboli in "Don Carlo" at the Vilnius National Theater in Lithuania conducted by Sesto Quatrini and as Laura Adorno in Ponchielli's "Gioconda" at the Verona Philharmonic Theater and in the Opera Houses of Lombardia. In December she sang Amneris again at the Prague State Opera conducted by Andriy Yurkevych. In 2023 she made her debut in Japan at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theater as Santuzza conducted byAsher Fisch.

She has performed under the direction of illustrious conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Jeffrey Tate, Riccardo Muti, Daniele Gatti, Yuri Temirkanov, Gianandrea Noseda, Renato Palumbo, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Maurizio Benini, Daniel Oren, Donato Renzetti, Ottavio Dantone, Jader Bignamini, Alpesh Chauhan, Sesto Quatrini, and Asher Fisch.

She sang under the direction of important directors including Luca Ronconi, Filippo Crivelli, David Mc Vicar, Giorgio Strehler, Michael Hampe, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Emma Dante, Stefano Poda, Lorenzo Mariani and Denis Krief.

Among the Italian and foreign theaters she has performed at are worth mentioning the Teatro alla Scala, the San Carlo in Naples, the Fenice in Venice, the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata, the Rome Opera, the Opéra in Marseille, the Arena di Verona, the Regio di Parma, the Lirico di Cagliari, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, the Regio di Torino, as well as the Rai Auditorium in Turin, the Martina Franca Festival.

A student of the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in the two-year period 2005-2007 she won the first prize in the competition "Voci Verdiane" of Busseto 2008,the first prize in the competition "Viotti" of Vercelli 2012 and the second prize in the competition "Elizabeth Connell Sidney 2014. She was also the only Italian finalist at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition 2013.
