Alexey Birkus was born in Belarus, holds a ,degree as Choir Conductor from the Performing Arts University of Minsk and studied Opera at the Young Singer Academy at the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He studied vocal technique with M° Vincenzo Manno in Milan and took a masterclass with Teresa Berganza.

In 2010 he became a member of "OperAvenir" in Basel where he sang as Il Re in Aida and as Surin in Pique Dame.

During the 2011/12 season he sang in Wozzeck with the Theater Basel, in I Puritani in Biel/Solothurn and in Der Konig Kaundaules at Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

In 2013/14 he became a member of the Landestheater Salzburg and sang roles such as Publio ,in La Clemenza di Tito and Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin. For this role he won the prize for his interpretation at the Austrian Music Theater Awards.

In the 2014/2015 season he performed Sarastro in Zauberflote, Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Conte Rodolfo in La Sonnambula.

Among recent engagements: König Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Nurabad in Les Pecheurs de Perles , Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni e Colline in La Bohème as a member of the Nürnberger Staatstheater. He debuted in Italy as Konig Marke in Tristan und Isolde in Ferrara, Modena and Trieste, Oroveso in Norma, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte in Nürnberg, Prince Gremin in Eugene  ,Onegin in Graz, Giorgio in I Puritani in Trieste, Macbeth and Trovatore in Pavia, Como, Brescia e Cremona.

He opened new ,productions of Lucia di Lammermoor and Don Giovanni in Graz, Sonnambula in Salzburg, Mosè in Egitto for Bad Wildbad Festival, also recorded on CD.
