Born in 1990, australian soprano Kiandra Howarth graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in 2010, whilst also a member of the Opera Queensland Developing Artist Programme.
In 2009 she made her professional debut with Opera Queensland, creating the role of Josie in the world premiere of Dirty Apple.
Kiandra has been the recipient of many awards and scholarships including; the Mozart Operatic Institute award, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama award, the Dr Handa prize and the Symphony Australia Young Vocalist Award all in the 2010 Australian Singing Competition. In addition she was awarded a study prize in the Acclaim Italian Fellowship in Melbourne, Australia to undertake intensive study and coaching sessions in Italy with soprano Valeria Esposito and Maestro Carlo Morganti at the Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi.
Kiandra was part of the 2011 Young Artist Programme with Opera Queensland where she understudied the role of Despina in Cosi fan tutte. In that same year she performed in a number of concerts with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House.
Joining the Young Artist Programme at Opera Australia in 2012, she performed the roles of Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and made her international debut for Opera Australia performing the role of Norina in Don Pasquale in Tokyo.
In September 2012 Kiandra moved to Salzburg, to begin a one-year intensive study program at the Mozarteum. In November of the same year she was awarded first prize in the VI Concorso Lirico Internazionale “Magda Olivero” in Milan. In April 2013 she performed the role of Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro for the Mozarteum in Salzburg and in June the role of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas for Teatro dell’Opera di Roma at the Caracalla Baths.
In Summer 2013 Kiandra joins the Salzburger Festspiele Young Singers Project, where she performed the roles of Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail für Kinder and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte für Kinder; beside that, she had the oportunity to perform Ein Friedensbote in Rienzi under Philippe Jordan and Una voce dal cielo in Don Carlo under Antonio Pappano in the main Festival Season.
In September 2013 Kiandra joined the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden; in the 2013/14 Royal Opera House season she will perform the roles of Second Flower Maiden in Parsifal, Echo in Ariadne Auf Naxos, Second unborn Child in Die Frau ohne Schatten and will cover the roles of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Soeur Constance in Les Dialogues des Carmelites.
