Martin Muehle

German-Brazilian tenor Martin Muehle was born in Porto Alegre in Brazil and studied at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck, Germany. He  has been praised for his vocal prowess and dramatic intensity on stage in some of the most challenging tenor roles.

Mr. Muehle’s 2016-17 season includes a number of important role and house debuts: the title role in Lohengrin in a new production by Vincent Boussard at Theater St. Gallen and in Mannheim, the debut at Oper Köln as Calaf in a new production of Turandot and  at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, the title role in Andrea Chénier at Deutsche Oper in Berlin conducted by Ivan Repusic. He ends the season with his debut at the Bregenz Festival in summer 2017 as Don José in a new production of Carmen directed by Kasper Holten and conducted by Paolo Carignani.

The 2015-16 season included his role debut as Des Grieux in a new production of Puccini‘s Manon Lescaut in São Paolo, his house debut at Oper Graz as Don José in Carmen and a return to Theater Freiburg as Faust in Mefistofele, as well as returns to the Nationaltheater Mannheim as Fritz in Schreker’s Der ferne Klang conducted by Dan Ettinger, and to Theater St. Gallen as Pollione in Norma. He also sang his first performances as Luigi in Il tabarro at Theater Bielefeld.

Martin Muehle was a member of the ensemble of the Nationaltheater Mannheim from 2013 to 2015, where he appeared as Hagenbach in La Wally, Faust in Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust, Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra, in Puccini roles such as Calaf in Turandot and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, as Don José and in the title role in a new production of Stiffelio. Other highlights of recent seasons included Don José in Carmen at Theater St. Gallen, Radames at the St. Margarethen Opera Festival in a new production of Aida, Siegmund in Die Walküre at Theater Detmold and in concert with the Croatian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Zagreb, as well as Arrigo in I Vespri Siciliani at Theater Freiburg. He is also featured on the critically acclaimed Naxos recording of Francesca da Rimini in the role of Paolo il bello with the Philharmonic Orchestra Freiburg under Fabrice Bollon.

Among his recent and future engagements, Adriana Lecouvreur at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Carmen at Teatro Bolshoi in Moscow, Il Trovatore and Carmen in Berna, Andrea Chénier at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, in Modena and at Teatro Regio in Parma and in Berlin, Carmen in Bregenz, Turandot in Köln and Verona, Il Trovatore in Seattle and Köln, Tosca in Graz, Pagliacci in Palermo, at Liceu and in Tel Aviv, Norma in Toulouse, Cavalleria rusticana in Barcelona, in Koeln and Franfkfurt with Manon Lescaut, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with Andrea Chénier, The Queen of Spades and Turandot.
