Born in Dae Gu (South Korea), Simon Lim graduated in 2007 at the Youngnam University in Gyeongsan and moved then to Italy to continue his studies at the Accademia di Perfezionamento of Teatro alla Scala. In the meantime, he received several awards and in particular he got the third place at Operalia 2010.
On the Scala stage, after his debut as Guccio in Gianni Schicchi under Chailly, he took part in productions of the Accademia with the title role in Le nozze di Figaro and Salzapariglia in Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali and of the Season with Flamish Envoy with Gatti in the Don Carlo opening production and Tom in Un ballo in maschera.
Among the houses where he has been a regular guest the Palau de les Arts in Valencia (Mustafa in L’italiana in Algeri-Zedda/Michieletto, Zaretsky in Eugenj Onegin-Wellber, Alidoro in La Cenerentola-Mariotti/Ronconi and Masetto in Don Giovanni-Mehta/Miller), the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Timur in Turandot, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Ramfis in the Aida new production and several revivals), the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv (La forza del destino and the debut as Filippo II in Don Carlo both with Oren and Zaccaria in a big open air in Jerusalem) and Teatro Filarmonico di Verona (Barone di Kelbar in Un giorno di regno, Padre Guardiano in La forza del destino and Alidoro in Cenerentola).
A special relationship has been built with Teatro la Fenice, where he debuted as Yorg in Stiffelio and came back every Season with several roles, among them Balthasar in La favorite, Raimondo in Lucia, Oroveso in Norma, Banco in Macbeth for the Chung-Michieletto Season opening production, Oroe in the Semiramide integral version, Timur in Turandot and Ramfis Aida.
Simon performed also at Theatre de Chatelet in Paris (Conte Asdrubale in La pietra del Paragone), the Glyndebourne Festival (Zuniga in Carmen), Teatro Regio di Torino (Alidoro), Opera de Bilbao (Yorg), Den Norske Opera in Oslo (Oroveso).
One of his beloved roles is Zaccaria in Nabucco, that he debuted in Cagliari and performed it in Lisboa, Salerno with Oren, Lille, Bayerische Staatsoper in München and Jerusalem.
Among his passed and future engagements, Procida in I vespri siciliani in the Circuito dell’Emilia Romagna,Verdi Requiem in Innsbruck, Ratcliffe in Billy Budd at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, President Wu Virtu in the Mohammed Fairouz’s new creation The new Prince in Amsterdam, Filippo II at Oper Frankfurt, Raimondo in Verona, Zaccaria in Marseille, Ramfis and Ferrando in Il trovatore at La Fenice, Petite Messe Solennelle at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the debuts at San Francisco Opera and Canadian Opera and a return in San Diego Opera.
