Susanna Branchini

Susanna Branchini, born in Rome to Italian father and Caribbean mother, graduates with honors at the Morlacchi Music Conservatory in Perugia and then participates successfully at many international competitions: finalist in both Toulouse and As.Li.Co. and winner of the Mattia Battistini. In 2002 she debuts at Teatro dell’Opera in Rome as Micaela in Carmen, soon followed by Liù in Turandot and Mimì in La Bohème.

Her fast vocal evolution allows her to approach quickly a more incisive repertoire,  as Verdi’s heroines, going from Aida, Trovatore and Don Carlo to the soprano drammatico d’agilità roles such as Odabella in AttilaLady in Macbeth  and Abigaille in Nabucco, where she can show her artistic temperament and  her acting skills. She also feels comfortable both with Puccini’s heroins like Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Suor Angelica, Giorgetta in Il tabarro and Turandot and in “verismo” repertoire where she can range from Pagliacci through Andrea Chénier to Cavalleria rusticana.

She collaborates with conductors as Maurizio Arena, Niksa Baresza, Andrea Battistoni, Maurizio Benini, Jader Bignamini, Giampaolo Bisanti, Massimo De Bernardt, Daniele Gatti, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Vladimir Jurowski, Günther Neuhold, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Oren, Stefano Ranzani, Donato Renzetti, Daniele Rustioni, Omer Wellber and directors as Hugo de Ana, Pippo Delbono, Giancarlo Del Monaco, Andrea De Rosa, Renzo Giacchieri, Ivo van Hove,  Peter Konwitschny, Davide Livermore, Lorenzo Mariani, Mario Martone, Francesco Micheli, Leo Muscato, Franco Ripa di Meana, Serena Sinigaglia, Ivan Stefanutti and Franco Zeffirelli.

Among her recent and future engagements: Leonora in Il trovatore in Sao Paulo and Macerata, the Verdi-Wagner Gala at Arena di Verona beside Placido Domingo, Tosca in Antwerpen, Venice, Macerata and Bari, Aida at the Arena and in Peking under Mehta, Lady in Macbeth at Filarmonico in Verona and at Theatre de Champs-Elysees under Gatti, the debut as Abigaille in Nabucco at the Arena followed in Cagliari, Bari and Florence, again Macbeth in Detroit, Pechino, Salerno, Verdi Requiem in Milano, the debut as Amelia in Un ballo in maschera in Piacenza and in the title role of Turandot in Cagliari, La forza del destino, Madama Butterfly and Un ballo in maschera in Tel Aviv under Oren, Lady in Macbeth in Lyon, Nabucco and Aida at Arena in Verona, La forza del destino in Reggio Emilia and Tosca in Piacenza, and Attila at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
